Michael has 16 years experience within the fine art, applied art, and jewel trades. Through his career he worked with private galleries and institutions, artists, charities, high-end pawnbrokers, and luxury asset lenders. His experience is re-enforced with qualifications and training in metalwork and jewellery design, retail jewellery, gemmology, diamond grading, jewellery appraising, art history, and art market appraising. Michael has amassed considerable knowledge and connoisseurship, with specialisms in fine arts, applied arts, antiques, fine jewellery, diamonds, and gemstones.
Excelling in his career, Michael attracted both public media and trade media attention over the years, becoming the London Ambassador for the National Pawnbroking Association and more importantly a pawnbroking expert on Channel 4’s hit series Posh Pawn.
Michael currently runs a number of his own business ventures, one of which being the launch of Felstead Studios in Hackney Wick. Experience in the art trade allowed Michael to see the potential of future growth and expansion with the end goal of a reputable high-end fine art framers catering to the London art world.
Alastair is a bespoke framer and art technician with 10 years experience to his name. He completed his degree in photography from University of Brighton along with formal training in experimental illustration at the University of Arts, London. It was during his time at university that he developed an interest in the display of artwork and creative events planning.
Since graduating, Alastair has built up a wealth of knowledge as a bespoke picture framer and gallery and artwork technician working for such esteemed companies as John Jones and Roberts & Stern.
In 2011 Alastair set up Hatch Space, an artists studio and gallery space in South East London. The business expanded into high quality bespoke framing, catering for galleries and private clients until it’s closure in 2015.
In 2013 he cofounded The London Illustration Fair, a four day annual event that exhibits contemporary illustration, print and graphic design from over 100 artists and designers. The event still runs every December at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, Southbank.
In 2017 Alastair joined Michael and Felstead Studios. His experience allows us to offer extremely high quality bespoke work to our clients from a creative and highly technical point of view.
Lewis is a practicing fine artist and an experienced art technician. He has amassed nearly 10 years experience specialising in art handling and installation, and completed his Postgraduate studies in Fine Art at the Royal Academy Schools in London in 2017.
With our studio, Lewis is primarily a framer and also an art technician working with our logistics and installations.
Lewis’ years working in the industry has given him a wealth of knowledge and expertise to draw upon to help our clients in making the best possible decision for the presentation of their artworks. As a fine artist, Lewis is also able to advise with expert knowledge on art surfaces and artwork solutions – ranging from conservation methods, materials, techniques and restoration enquiries.
We also have a number of freelance framers on staff for any excess workloads and installations. By structuring our staff body this way we are able to take on complicated or large volumed jobs within quick turnarounds.
